Our aim is to foster in all people a desire to explore the world, to participate in exploration and discovery with others, and through collaboration make those discoveries that help all of us better understand and appreciate our shared history.
Building on three decades of acclaimed scholarship, research and new discoveries, the 1421 Research, Education and Exploration Foundation is a USA-based participation-driving foundation with the mission to promote collaborative research, education and public awareness of the history of maritime exploration and show that globalization has been a process in action for thousands of years.
The 1421 Foundation has through its long and sustained efforts, become a nexus point for the study of exploration, the exchange of academic and non-academic / public data related to Zheng He and his voyages, and for general public-oriented education, awareness-building and informative outreach.
The 1421 Foundation unites enthusiasts, supporters, and academics towards a vision of modern collaborative research, participatory exploration, and shared discovery with the purpose of creating meaningful, even thrilling, educational programs delivered through traditional, digital and social networking platforms.

ACADEMIA The 1421 Foundation has established a formal working relationship with Yunnan University and Yunnan’s Zheng He Studies Association in order that Yunnan’s professors and students will collaborate with the 1421 Foundation with a view to advancing shared studies on Zheng He's voyages.
SOCIETIES 1421 Foundation representatives have been given a platform to discuss their research at some of the most prestigious societies and institutes around the world, including the Royal Geographical Society, London; Royal Geographical Society, Hong Kong; Institution of Navigation; Institute of Civil Engineers; Greenwich Maritime Institute.
MUSEUMS Members of the 1421 Foundation have given keynote speeches at Maritime Museums around the world, including Greenwich (UK), Sydney (Australia), Newport News (USA), Instituto Magellanes, Instituto do Oriente (Portugal) and Quanzhou (China).
